Extensions describe different paths
| Format | Meaning for the task |
|---|---|
| APK | An Android package; check whether it is standalone or part of a split set |
| XAPK / APKS | An archive or package set, not interchangeable with a standalone APK |
| AAB | A publishing bundle rather than the usual direct installation file |
Changing the filename does not transform an archive into a standalone package. Use the release source’s documented method instead of randomly mixing split files.
Name, package and signer are different identifiers
A visible title or icon helps a person recognise an app, but a replacement file must belong to the intended package and accepted signing history. If Android reports an update conflict, preserve the current installation while asking the publisher to identify the correct release.
Use the publisher-channel guide when a familiar name is the only connection you have.
What a checksum can tell you
A SHA-256 comparison can show whether file bytes match a reference supplied for the release. It is useful only with a reference tied to the intended file; it does not itself establish the trustworthiness of whoever supplied that reference.
For release support, keep the filename, source and exact message with the installed version. Use the update workflow instead of choosing a differently named file at random.
